Final Gig 7/4/2007

Thank you to everyone who has supported inertia over the last 6 years. It's been a long and memorable journey, but the band has decided to come to an end. We'd like to cordially invite all of you to come to our last and final gig as a band on July 4th, at the mall in DC.  Inertia will be playing a set after 5pm at Christ on the Mall, an event co-sponsored by 105.1 WAVA, Central Union Mission, MetroCommunity.org, and several area and local churches.

*EDIT*

Sorry guys, we've just been informed that we'll be the closing act for the night, so we will be playing right before 8pm, not 5pm. Thanks!

CD/Song Compilation – The Dojo Sessions
Genre: Rock
By Brandon Greene

The Maryland-based four member band, Inertia is affecting rock music in a positive way and helping to redefine worship music for the better.  For over two years, Inertia has been pushing the envelope back to expand our culture’s outlook on worship beyond what it is today focusing on what it can be in the future.  With a mix of influences from modern worship leaders like Matt Redman and modern bands like Mute-Math, Inertia creatively incorporates the two sounds into something original.  This rock four-some combines unique guitar riffs and rhythms with messages most Christians will relate to.  Their driving rock anthems are sure to draw listeners into the musical creations that define Inertia.

Inertia has continued to mature as musicians united together to create music for His glory since forming in July 2001.  The four band members consist of Arthur Kang (vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards), Jee Kim (background vocals, bass), Jason Chong (electric guitar), and Raymond Goh (drums).  They have been playing live since they were young. Lead vocalist, Arthur Kang has been writing lyrics for Inertia since the creation of the band.  Their newest creation, “The Dojo Sessions” is more focused than their previous album, “Today’s the Day.”   We asked Inertia drummer, Raymond Goh, What suggestions he would give to people wanting to start a band. He said, “My suggestion in starting a band would be to try to find artists who are humble. inertiagroupyellow
Humility is really important in being able to improve as a band and it is also critical for working together. Without humility, it's impossible to get better!  And, the last thing anyone wants is a band that doesn't get any better year after year. For those people who want to start performing live, I would say the biggest advice is to not take it too seriously.  We've seen bands over the years that really got down on themselves or argued with each other because of a few mistakes here and there. Honestly, most of the time people don't really notice and it's not the end of the world when someone misses a note here or misses some queue there.
inertiagroupoutsideI would say to just have fun and to remember that as a band you're always a work-in-progress. I would also say that it's a big help to listen to and play with as many other bands as possible.  For us, listening to other bands inspired us to get better and gave us inspiration to try new ideas. It was also a great way to make new friends! Many times we would talk to bands and learn what kinds of hardware and equipment they were using. Little things like that can potentially be a huge help. One last thing, I would say to invest in recording a solid demo.  Having a good demo will open up doors for a lot of opportunities to share your music.  Our second album was a huge improvement over our first one and it made booking gigs much easier.”  We also asked Goh, “Have you faced any road blocks from being a Christian artist?”
His responded, “That's an interesting question. There haven't been any road blocks in the sense that we've been able to play pretty much anywhere. We've played clubs and secular music festivals as well as churches and retreats. However, I think there is definitely a struggle inherent to Christian music that involves figuring out what your purpose is as a band.  There are so many Christian bands these days that are "crossing over" or trying to reach the un-reached through their music. At the same time, there's also a great need for bands to write music that encourages and inspires fellow Christians.  Figuring out where we stood was a constant struggle through the years. I think for us, we've JUST started to understand that God is directing us more towards writing worship music for the church but who knows? We're always staying open to whatever plans He has.”

Inertia has a solid foundation in Christ established and as a band, they are on track with a great future ahead of them.   This band has the potential to help fellow Christians and un-reached people alike.  It will be interesting to see how God will use this talented group to influence and encourage others in years to come through their future creations.
